商品説明※アメリカの現地出品者により作成されたため、英語のまま掲載いたしております。Antique Johnson Mfg. Co. Urbana Ohio Tinware Railroad Torch Lantern & Wick - Pot Lantern With Wick - With Long Hollow Handle Tube Nice example of an early tinware railroad torch lantern... a primitive lighting device. The torch lantern has the mark of The Johnson Manufacturing Company of Urbana, Ohio. Our example is in nice, vintage condition with a screw on/off lid that is properly functioning. Years of age and usage patina is in evidence...nothing more than would be expected for the piece. The hollow handle is well attached...the base bottom is clearly marked with the Johnson Urbana O marking. The Johnson Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1902 by brothers James B., J. Will, Isaac T., and Charles F. Johnson, all of Quaker heritage. The company manufactured tin and galvanized iron ware for railroad lines across the United States. The initial product was the No. 1 long-spouted locomotive oiler with the patented dripless spout. That was quickly followed by other types of oil cans, signaling equipment, engine buckets, tallow pots, torches, track inspection devices, tin cups, and caboose and cabin car lamps, all carrying the Diamond J trademark. The makers created the patterns and everything was cut, riveted, and soldered by hand. Constructed in tin, this oil can torch lamp with a precise long tube shaped funnel-like spout with original wick that leads into bottom of can. With a screw on cap top and a large tapered handle with a seamed back. The long handle is hollow and may have used to insert a piece of wood to reach outward in length. Not sure.Form follows function - the screw top allows for easy filling from a larger container, the spout makes for precise direction of wick absorption. The handle's shape & placement allows for good balance while holding. The spout and handle are soldered on, the tin cap screws off easily and torch sits evenly. The tin torch is in good antique condition, it has a darkened old tin patina, some dings and dents on its cap and spout with no cracks, holes or repairs. No rust areas. The torch has an untouched patina and retaining a fair amount of the original tinning. This lamp was cut, riveted and soldered by hand. The torch lantern stands about 4- 3/5" high by 3-3/4” across the bottom, top cap measures 2-3/4” wide. The torch with wick is 6" long and the hollow handle is 9-1/2" long A nice addition to one's railroad collection.
